Varsity boys basketball excel in new league

After entering a new league, GISA (Georgia Independent School Association), TKA’s sports department has taken on a multitude of challenges. In previous years, the Knight’s sports teams  competed in GAPPS (Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools). Now, the Varsity Boys Basketball team is enduring a new and more competitive schedule.

“[GISA] is more consistently strong throughout,” Coach Brett Hereth said. “In the previous league, we would have five to six good teams a year, and now we’ve got about twelve to fourteen pretty good teams, so it’ll be a tough challenge in the playoffs.”

In spite of new competition, Coach Hereth has led the team to a current 17-5 record. The Knights lead their division with a 3-1 regional record. Senior Bryson McCleskey has shown impressive stats against the improved competition, leading the team with an average of 16.3 points per game and a very high free throw percentage.

“I think [the players] have been great, and they are excited for the challenge,” Hereth said, “We have played a lot of good teams so far and a lot of tough non-conference games, but I’m pretty happy with where we’re at.”

After ten years of being the Varsity Head Coach at TKA, Coach Hereth surpassed his 200th career win for the school’s program. His leadership and drive to win has brought his players much success during his time as coach, both in basketball and their broader spiritual lives.

The Knight’s regular season is coming to an end, and their playoff run and quest for another state championship title will begin next month. GISA has given the Knight’s sports programs new opportunities to excel and the Varsity Boys Basketball team is taking on this challenge with every game.
